There’s a certain reality of sabbatical life that I haven’t wanted to face. That reality is: It will come to an end. The money I’ve saved for my sabbatical will last me about another two months. That means it’s time to start thinking about bringing in an income again.
Luckily, I’m now used to sticking to a tight budget. After adding up the numbers, I realized that I only need to find part-time work, at a certain rate, to be able to pay my bills each month. This will allow me to keep working on my new business!
The question is…what type of part-time work should I look at? I’m already an Airbnb host and am enjoying that experience immensely. Driving for Uber or Lyft? Eh, that’s not really my thing. I’m still a Chicago girl at heart and prefer walking, biking or riding public transportation. I’m considering listing my bike on Spinlister. I’m also in talks about becoming a part-time blogger with Downtown Santa Monica.
I’m feeling blessed to be in a position where I can take the time to look for a job that I would truly enjoy. I’m not desperate for money. In fact, I could tap into my nest egg if I wanted, but I feel like looking for part-time work is a smarter financial move. Ultimately, I want to find something that will give me the flexibility to keep working on my new business, and I know there are plenty of roles and opportunities out there that will do that.
This has been the greatest time in my life. I’m going to be sad to see my sabbatical come to an end, but it has brought me more excitement and joy than I ever imagined it would. It has opened my creative mind again. By the time it’s over, I will have accomplished the goal I set for it: starting a business. (If you subscribe to my email list, you’ll be the first in my network to find out about this business!)
