A few weeks ago, I was at a networking event in Hollywood. Someone asked me, “What are you creating these days?” I was completely caught off-guard by the question, and my response was silence. In that silence, I racked my brain and even asked myself, “Yeah Jenny. What ARE you creating?” After what felt like an eternity (but was probably only a few seconds), I gave the only response that came to my head.

“I am creating a life that embraces uncertainty.”

Even as the words came out, I wasn’t sure if they would make any sense. The person I was talking to then said, “How interesting! What exactly does that mean?”

My response to that was, “Well, I don’t even know exactly.”

That night and that conversation has stuck with me. The event itself was a new speaker series that aims to inspire entrepreneurs and creators. I definitely left there inspired by the talented people I had met. I was also inspired by that simple question, “What are you creating?” Right now, I don’t feel like I’m creating. I just feel like I’m sustaining. I’m living the freelance life because I haven’t made up my mind on what kind of business I want to create. I feel like I’m in limbo and just doing the jobs that need to get done to pay the bills. I want to build something that serves others, and I’ve been stuck on what that is, but perhaps the response that I gave is a sign of what I SHOULD be creating?

In the time since, I’ve asked myself…Can I really build a business around embracing uncertainty? What would that look like? I’m not a therapist, but I can definitely be an adviser to someone looking to quit their job and chase their dreams, like I did. Would it include some kind of mentoring or accountability program? Should I create a course on how to take a sabbatical and maximize your time in it?

I haven’t settled on any particular product or service because I’m still asking myself this question over and over again:
